Organ Recital at Christ Church, Sun. June 16, 5pm:  Christ Church will host its second organ recital on the recently installed Casavant Freres Pipe Organ, Opus 3914.  The guest organist will be international concert and recording artist Jeremy Filsell, who is Organist and Director of Music at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City.  England-born Filsell is well known to the Washington DC music community, having served as Director of Music at Saint Alban's Episcopal Church and the Church of the Epiphany (downtown), Artist-in-Residence at Washington National Cathedral, and Professor of Organ at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. The program entitled 'Americana' will include works by Stephen Paulus, Calvin Hampton, Julian Wachner, Gerre Hancock, and more. The concert is free and a reception will follow.  All are welcome to attend

Friday, April 26, 2019 7 pm at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

Together with Notre-Dame de Paris April 26, 2019 – 7PM Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception 400 Michigan Ave, NE - Washington, D.C. The tragic fire that broke out at the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris on April 15th destroying its iconic spire and reducing its ancient wooden roof to ash has sparked a wave of sympathy and emotion across the world. The French cathedral, which dates back more than 850 years, will be rebuilt, “more beautiful than before” declared French President Emmanuel Macron. Reconstruction of Notre-Dame will take many years, and is going to be a huge collective effort. Join us on April 26th, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D. C., for a free concert celebrating the spiritual and cultural significance of Notre-Dame de Paris in the world and the hope for its future. South Rose Window of Notre-Dame Cathedral The program (to be announced soon) will feature Johann Vexo, organist at Notre-Dame de Paris, and the choir of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Johann Vexo was playing at Notre-Dame when the fire started on April 15th. He is the last musician to have performed there. The event will be free and open to all (no reservation required), with a freewill offering to benefit the rebuilding and restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris. This event is organized by the Embassy of France in the United States and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, in partnership with the Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris and the French-American Cultural Foundation.
